From Practical TVET Skills to MQA Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree Progression
After completing the 16-month Extended Diploma in Digital Marketing journey at KAGC College, learners graduate with practical digital marketing competency, workplace exposure, and the Malaysian SKM Level 3 certification in Digital Marketing Operations.
>The SKM Level 3 qualification is based on Malaysia’s National Occupational Skills Standard for Operasi Pemasaran Digital / Digital Marketing Operation, code M731-001-3:2021, covering core digital marketing competencies such as SEO, SEM, e-commerce marketing, mobile marketing, email marketing, and social media marketing.
This gives graduates a strong practical foundation before they decide whether to enter employment immediately or continue their academic journey locally.
Understanding the Malaysian Qualification Pathway
Malaysia’s qualification system is structured under the Malaysian Qualifications Framework, which recognises certificate, diploma, bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and doctoral levels. MQA states that the framework integrates TVET and academic sectors, allowing clearer progression across qualification pathways.
In general:
- SKM Level 3 sits at certificate level.
- MQA Diploma is commonly positioned at MQF Level 4.
- Bachelor’s Degree is positioned at MQF Level 6.
This means a KAGC graduate may use the SKM Level 3 as a practical foundation before applying to a local private university or college for an MQA-accredited diploma programme.
Phase 1: Complete KAGC’s 16-Month Digital Marketing Programme
The journey begins after the learner completes KAGC’s 16-month requirement, which includes practical training and On-the-Job Training.
By the end of this phase, the learner should have:
- SKM Level 3 Digital Marketing Operations certification
- Practical digital marketing portfolio
- OJT experience
- Exposure to real platforms such as SEO, SEM, social media, e-commerce, and analytics
- Stronger confidence for either employment or further study
Estimated duration: 16 months
Phase 2: Apply for an MQA Diploma at a Local Private University or College
After completing SKM Level 3, the graduate may apply to a local private higher education institution offering an MQA-accredited diploma in a related area such as:
- Diploma in Digital Marketing
- Diploma in Marketing
- Diploma in Business
- Diploma in E-Commerce
- Diploma in Mass Communication
- Diploma in Business Information Systems
Admission is subject to the receiving institution’s entry requirements. MQA’s TVET-articulation guidelines explain that learners may be admitted when they meet minimum entry requirements, but some may need a bridging programme if there are gaps between their prior qualification and the chosen programme requirements.
A bridging programme may be required when:
- The diploma is in a different field
- The university requires additional academic subjects
- The learner does not fully meet programme-specific requirements
- The institution needs to strengthen the learner’s academic readiness
Phase 3: Complete the MQA Diploma
An MQA diploma normally requires at least 90 credits before the qualification can be awarded.
Depending on the university, programme structure, credit transfer, and study mode, the diploma may take approximately:
- 2 years to 2.5 years for a full diploma pathway
- Possibly shorter if credit exemption or advanced standing is granted
- Possibly longer for part-time study or additional bridging requirements
During this phase, the learner strengthens academic knowledge in areas such as:
- Marketing principles
- Business communication
- Consumer behaviour
- Management
- Digital strategy
- Research skills
- Academic writing
Estimated duration: 24–30 months
Phase 4: Apply for an MQA Bachelor’s Degree
After completing the MQA diploma, the graduate may apply for a bachelor’s degree in a related field such as:
- Bachelor of Digital Marketing
- Bachelor of Marketing
- Bachelor of Business Administration
- Bachelor of Business Management
- Bachelor of E-Commerce
- Bachelor of Communication
- Bachelor of Entrepreneurship
The receiving university will usually assess:
- Diploma field relevance
- CGPA
- Credit transfer eligibility
- Programme mapping
- English requirement
- Specific subject requirements
If the diploma is closely related to the bachelor’s degree, the learner may receive credit transfer or advanced standing. If the field is less related, the university may require additional subjects or bridging modules.
Phase 5: Complete the Bachelor’s Degree
A Malaysian bachelor’s degree normally requires at least 120 credits.
For diploma graduates entering a related degree, the remaining study period is commonly around:
- 2 years with approved credit transfer
- 2.5 to 3 years if fewer credits are transferred
- Longer if the learner changes field or studies part-time
At this stage, the learner builds higher-level academic and professional capability in areas such as:
- Strategic marketing
- Digital business
- Brand management
- Consumer research
- Data-driven decision-making
- Leadership
- Final-year project or internship
Estimated duration: 24–36 months

Why This Pathway Matters
This pathway gives KAGC Digital Marketing graduates a practical-first route.
Instead of starting with theory alone, learners first build:
- Job-ready skills
- Workplace exposure
- Digital marketing execution experience
- A portfolio
- SKM Level 3 certification
They can then decide whether to:
- Enter the workforce immediately
- Continue into an MQA diploma
- Progress later into a bachelor’s degree
This supports a flexible education journey: learn practical skills first, graduate job-ready, and continue academically when ready.
Important Note for Students and Parents
Progression from SKM Level 3 into an MQA diploma is subject to the admission policy of the receiving university or college. Students should always confirm the latest entry requirements, credit transfer policy, and bridging requirements directly with the institution before applying.
